On the Sound of Säveltie blog, you can delve deeper into our work and the courses we offer. The teachers of Musiikkikoulu Säveltie take turns sharing their insights. This time, we are featuring the Musical Theatre Course.
Musical theatre combines singing, acting, and dance or movement. The Musical Theatre Course of Musiikkikoulu Säveltie is an exploration of embracing imperfection and finding playfulness. The course also covers vocal techniques and text interpretation. It is suitable for both young people and adults.
Embracing Incompleteness
The creative process often involves uncertainty and a sense of incompleteness. In theatre rehearsals, you can face your uncertainties in a safe environment, learning to enjoy even the challenging stages of the rehearsal process. When you can confront your uncertainties safely, it becomes a platform for learning.
In the course, we seek the source of playfulness. During the sessions, you'll have the opportunity to let go of excessive control and immerse yourself in play within a supportive environment. There are no right or wrong answers, only different choices and interpretations.
Theatre is a collective play, which is why the course focuses on recognizing and articulating positive aspects not only in your own work but also in others' performances.
Performing Through Song Lyrics
Singing on stage is more than just a technical performance. In musical theatre, acting, singing, and movement play crucial roles, intertwining as tools to serve storytelling. Mastering good vocal technique is important, but ultimately, the essence of musical theatre lies in interpretation and how the story is conveyed to the audience.
That's why the course explores not only technical skills but also other aspects. How an actor tells the story is more engaging than merely how technically skilled they are.
Communality
In musical theatre, the emotional skills and self-expression learned together also transfer to other areas of life, enhancing self-esteem.
Theatre welcomes everyone, regardless of background or age. No experience is needed to join in the collective play!
